Great Falls Sketch

Great Falls Sketch is a sculptural installation artwork inspired by the Great Falls of Paterson, New Jersey. Paterson is a site that was selected by Alexander Hamilton as America’s entry into the Industrial Revolution because of the potential energy source of this waterfall. Though within 20 miles of New York City, relatively few people today are aware of the existence of the Great Falls or of their significance in American history. Through the installation of building materials, ceramic spillways and water, the artist creates a three-dimensional “sketch” of the falls in physical and visual terms, while providing the viewer with an experience of a working waterfall. By creating a displaced, temporary and live installation of the Great Falls, the artist references the historic Great Falls, and transfers an experience of this waterfall to a new place and time. Great Falls Sketch is a focal point of her recent creative endeavor entitled Great Falls Continuum, a project that attempts to conflate awareness of time and space on a site with significant known history.
